Fred Beckett FROI, RSMA, Hon. RI, Hon. RBA, Hon. EAGMA
Fred Beckett is an East Anglian who has a natural love of landscape and big skies. He started painting at an early stage and had a strong influence from his elder brother towards art, but other advice steered him towards a business career. In retrospect it proved to be the right path for he was able to reserve art as a hobby.
Throughout his successful business career he managed to do a meaningful number of sketches and small paintings. Many of his small works were done at intervals during his business travelling around the world.
After completing business life he naturally turned to develop his artistic talent and is self-taught. He is at ease painting in oils or watercolour, and whatever the subject matter. Constantly exploiting his ability and in recent years has successfully introduced figurative aspects into his work, as well as expanding the repertoire to include continental scenes. Fred is influenced by impressionist techniques and he is settled with his loose style to bring a freshness to his work.
Fred is an Honorary Artist Member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, an Honorary Member of The Royal Society of British Artists and Honorary Member of East Anglian Group of Marine Artists. A member of the renowned Wapping Group of Artists and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers.
He exhibits regularly at the Mall Galleries in London and was the 1995 winner of the ROI Alan Gourley Memorial Prize for an outstanding painter and was awarded the Le Clerc Fowle gold medal in 2002. In 2006 he was awarded the Dartington Crystal Chalice for outstanding contribution and service to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. His work has been shown at many galleries in London and the Provinces. In the past ten years he has successfully held six solo exhibitions.
Many of his paintings are in private collections in USA, Canada, Italy, Germany, Japan and Australia as well as this country.
